Tread Lightly
Tread Lightly
By Fine Arts Students at Langara College
Tread Lightly was designed for the Langara/49th Avenue Station by students in the Fine Arts Program at Langara College. The sculpture reflects the points and connections of a simple train route map, transformed through the use of plexiglass panels of various shapes and sizes. The result challenges the viewer to see the route in a new way. Tread Lightly also mirrors the structure carbon atoms take during the formation of a diamond, suggesting connections to the natural world. Stencilled footprints remind us to tread lightly on the earth – an idea reinforced through the use of public transit.
The sculpture was created in the fall of 2011 by artists: Kenneth (James) Fletcher, Brian Jones, Adele Kruger, Anchi Lin, Natalia Nguyen, Stephanie Postulo, Helia Rashedi, Taiana Selback, Issa Slimani, Karen Vengshoel, and Jennifer Worms, along with instructor Luke Blackstone.
