Weaving Through The Walls
Weaving Through The Walls
By Students of Langara College
This public art sculpture “Weaving Through The Walls” was designed and built by Students of Langara College: Abigail Chan, Tony Emslander, Rajan Ladhar, Ariel Lajeunesse, Sam Leung, Zayd Mia, Tong (Forest) Shen , Charlie Yandel.
The artwork aims to bring attention to the overlooked and underappreciated through a visual portrayal of the saying “a fly on the wall”.
The students of Langara wish to showcase the acorn weevil which is part of BC’s eco-system. They support BC’s forests by preventing over-population of oak trees and enhancing soil health of the forest beds.
The artwork incorporates an optical illusion that has repeated patterns in the representation of the acorn weevil in order to comment on the importance of perception and perspective when exploring many different subjects. The paint used for the foreground design is glow-in-the-dark paint paired with a dark blue background for visual contrast.
