Her Story
By Krista Belle Stewart
In 1967, Camera West, a CBC documentary series, produced Seraphine:
Her own story told by Seraphine Ned, which portrayed the story of BC’s first Native public health nurse, and the artist’s mother. This project is based on a production still from this film and is used to unpack a set of personal and institutional histories, which testify both to specific and general complexities of residential school history. Krista Belle Stewart is a member of the Upper Nicola Band of the Okanagan Nation. She studied at Emily Carr University and is currently working on an MFA from Bard College in New York.
