Patterns of Passage

By Students of Langara College

Patterns of Passage was designed and created by students of Langara College. It is a very unique design with a key message.

The design depicts fabric as a metaphor for the crossing of paths. Each line in the design represents a piece of thread, and each thread symbolizes a person. When multiple threads overlap, they create a piece of fabric that is far stronger and more beautiful than on their own.

The goal of the design is to invoke a sense of belonging and community, while also showcasing the diversity of Vancouver and those who use public transit. It is a British Columbia tartan design with patterns that were incorporated from student’s cultures such as Philippines, India and several others. It helps to create art that reflects and celebrates various global ethnicities through the metaphor of weaving, bringing them all together to create a cohesive vision.

Coast Salish patterns were included to honour the land that the Langara 49th station resides on.

This artwork was created as a collaboration between Langara College and InTransit BC.
